De Johnford DMC-serie brugfreesmachine met dubbele kolom en beweegbare tafel is vervaardigd uit een brug/kolomconstructie van gegoten Meehanite-ijzer, die naar verluidt 30 procent minder vloeroppervlak in beslag neemt dan vergelijkbare verticale bewerkingscentra met C-frame. De brugfreesmachines zijn verkrijgbaar in uitvoeringen met beweegbare tafel en met schuifkolom (vaste tafel), met afmetingen variërend van 91 x 91 x 76 cm tot 18 x 6 meter. De lange basisconstructie biedt volledige ondersteuning aan de tafel over de gehele Y-asbeweging van 130 cm, waardoor zeer zware werkstukken bewerkt kunnen worden. De Y- en Z-assen dragen te allen tijde een vaste belasting, terwijl de X-as de enige dynamische belasting draagt. Dit maakt nauwkeurige bewerkingen en strakke toleranties mogelijk tijdens bewerkingen met hoge snelheid. Doordat er geen tafeloverhang is, worden de helling en de draaiing van de X-as geëlimineerd. De afstand tussen de hartlijn van de spindel en de kolom is geminimaliseerd, wat de stijfheid verder verhoogt. De zwaar geribbelde gietijzeren constructie van de machine zorgt voor een lange levensduur van het gereedschap en een goede oppervlakteafwerking van het werkstuk. De combinatie van twee schroefbandtransporteurs en een rupsbandtransporteur garandeert een volledige spaanafvoer met minimale handmatige reiniging. Bovendien wordt eindige-elementenanalyse (FEA) gebruikt voor het ontwerp van elke brugfreesmachine, waarbij de effecten van realistische omstandigheden, zoals trillingen, warmte, vloeistofstroming en andere fysieke invloeden, worden gesimuleerd.
