Originally, it was built as a conventional diesel engine capable of burning various heavy fuels with viscosities of up to 730 cSt at 50°C. The engine was subsequently upgraded by Wartsila to comply with the LN-E model specification for their 32-series engines and it was equipped with adequate fuel feeding systems, cylinder heads, pistons and liners for dual fuel (DF) and gas diesel (GD) operation. The upgrade included the installation of anti-polishing rings, an increase in engine output, and the implementation of a completely new control system. The unit has been used to test various fuels and components on behalf of Wartsila. It has been exclusively serviced by Wartsila and remains in good technical condition. Over the years, Wartsila has installed new components and control systems.
