It has a variable interior volume of 1.8 to 4 m³. The exhaust air volume flow from the front evaporator or the air conditioning unit is regulated and directed into the interior. Only rear evaporators installed in the passenger compartment are tested with the interior simulation box. The insulated housing is mounted on an aluminum profile frame with rollers. A light is installed in the chamber. The box is protected against overheating via a safety thermostat (ESTI). If the permissible temperature is exceeded, a glass cartridge in the ESTI is destroyed. The system is stopped.
