The system was designed to reduce manual handling of the bags. The operator places the full Big Bag in the loading area and attaches its lifting loops to the lifting crossbeam. The subsequent lifting, travel and positioning operations are carried out automatically by programmable electric hoists. The installation incorporates a double gantry-type supporting structure equipped with two VICINAY electric wire-rope hoists, each with a lifting capacity of 1,600 kg. The hoists are fitted with electric travelling trolleys and numerically controlled positioning. Each hoist has a 3 kW lifting motor and a 0.55 kW travelling motor, with an approximate lifting speed range of 1.8 to 14.5 m/min.
